SCANNING

Scanning is made using preselected excitation voltages for each sensor. Several A/D conversions can be averaged in order to get a better resolution. Switching between sensors is made in a sequence that prevents accidental overheating. Software autoranging can be used.
The TS-530A temperature controller can be connected to sensor No. 0. Because the AVS-47B Resistance Bridge can measure only one channel at a time, the controller is set automatically to a state where its heater output remains constant during the measurement of other sensors. Active control is enabled for a selectable period (TCP) between each channel to be scanned. Simultaneous scanning and control is suitable only in systems where thermal conditions remain reasonably stable.

PRINTING AND BUFFERING

Results can be buffered in a 64kB memory together with time stamps. The buffered results can be either printed on paper or read via the GBPI bus. Printing/reading is always sequential, starting from the first record. Measurement results can also be printed in real time to an LPT: printer by using the front panel START/PRINT switch.

DIGITAL FILTERING

The digital filter is a simple running average of a pre-set number of readings. An automatic re-start follows changes in settings, like selecting a new resistance range (autoranging). During digital filtering no other commands are accepted except STP (stop) and DFR (give digital filter reading).

DIGITAL CALIBRATION

The digital self-calibration procedure measures gain factors and offsets on all seven excitation ranges and uses this information to correct the readings. This feature is convenient it the AVS-47B suffers from large changes in operating temperature. Calibration data is volatile and calibration must be repeated whenever the AVS47-IB power has been off.
